Nepali Times ePaper
Dear Nepali Times Readers,
On Thursday, after our print edition went to press, the National Assembly passed the Nepal Citizenship (First Amendment) Bill to amend the Citizenship Act of 2006.
Although the new Bill clears the way for the thousands of children of parents who got citizenship by birth to become citizens by descent and allows Non-Resident Nepalis to acquire citizenship, legal experts and activists say that it is blatantly discriminatory towards women.
Details in Page 1 story by Sahina Shrestha with a flowchart explainer by Subin Mulmi.
